At present, film-forming materials for aqueous coatings and inks include water-based alkyd resins, amino resins, phenol resins, polyester resins, epoxy resins, acrylic resins, and the like.
Because waterborne polyacrylates have the advantages of stable enthalpy, good gloss, rheological properties and good surface adsorption properties, they are more promising for use in inks and coatings. In this paper, we use acrylic acid, acrylate, methacrylic acid, methacrylic acid ester as the base material, in the presence of ammonium persulfate or benzoyl peroxide, water or alcohol as solvent to add styrene, Four different water-soluble acrylic modified resins were synthesized by modification with vinyl acetate, and their properties were determined. The results show that the viscosity, water solubility, swellability, acid and alkali resistance, and brightness of the four resins have reached the performance of solvent-based acrylates for inks and coatings. In the study we found that the properties of the resin are related to the uniformity of polymerization, the hydrophilic group and molecular weight, and the neutralization conditions. The order of addition, the ratio of raw materials, the amount of initiator, the time and temperature of the reaction are the main factors determining the performance of the product.
