Igus produces lubrication-free aggregate bearings

In order to meet the growing market demand of maintenance-free solutions for consumers, igus® has introduced this non-lubricated polymer bearing, which can be used directly and provides a lifetime guarantee. Iglidur bearings help the car run smoothly - no lubrication of aggregate bearings without driver maintenance.

Igus's non-lubricated aggregate bearings were installed in electric taxis in Bangalore and other cities in India. These bearings are used as main hub bearings and are installed in anti-subduction and other bearings.

These tricycles have a special mechanism that prevents the car from turning during braking. This anti-subduction device is a connection device equipped with four rods. The main hub on the device is guided by an iglidur RN56 self-lubricating bearing.

According to the feedback from the driver, there is often a failure in the supply of lubricating oil, which means that the bearings wear quickly and the clearance increases. Other frequently-occurring problems are: loud noises, violent shaking of hands, or tilting of rickshaws in the brakes.

The load of the bearing is the load of the car plus the weight of the passengers and the inertia of the car, which totals about 3 metric tons. In the past, the subduction device on the car was equipped with a bush with a lubricating oil groove and a punched hole with graphite on the side.

This non-lubricated polymeric bearing is resistant to high temperatures, chemical or moisture. But special solutions usually mean hard to obtain or huge costs, so igus decided to use its many years of experience to optimize polymer friction technology to replace low-efficiency standard materials.
