“After receiving the Anhui float production task from the province, we felt that we were under heavy responsibility. The floats should be reviewed by the party and the people throughout the country. In the shortest possible time, Jianghuai Automobile established a special leadership team and working group for the production of chassis for float cars under the leadership of General Manager An Jin. The scheme of the chassis of floats is personally guided by the company’s leaders. After reviewing the technical solutions, it is submitted to the float production office and the float production company for confirmation, and the final technical documents are submitted to the provincial float production office for leadership; the company then arranges the production technicians. The floats participating in the National Day parade have very high requirements: the floats in each province are 15 meters long, 6 meters wide, and no more than 10 meters high. During the parade, the floats were required to be able to run smoothly at regular walking speeds to keep pace with the pedestrians in the float squares. JAC's float car chassis chose the rear axle with a high ratio of speed, and the minimum speed of the vehicle was controlled at 3.2 km/h, which was equivalent to the average person's walking speed.
It is to avoid overpasses, pedestrian bridges, and wires during the transition. All floats are limited to a height of 4.15 meters before they are lifted. The "Jianghuai He Chang" floats, which we see as high as 10 meters, lifted the main shape of the horse's head wall through the internal lifting device after arriving at the departure point of the East Chang'an Street.
Technical innovations ingeniously solve brake problems
Taking into account that in the process of parade floats in the event of flameouts, punctures and other emergencies, float production safety requirements, during the procession, in the event of a vehicle stall, we must ensure that vehicles can rely on manpower implementation through Tiananmen Square. For these large vehicles with pneumatic control, after the engine stalls, the rear wheel brake will automatically lock up, the vehicle is in a parking brake state, making it impossible for manpower to push.
In order to ensure that the vehicle brakes do not lock, some manufacturers directly remove the rear brakes. Although this approach can solve the problem of locking the rear axle, it will also reduce the braking performance of the vehicle. In Anhui floats, Jianghuai Automobile adopted an innovative design - it was equipped with a spare pneumatic mechanism consisting of a gas tank, switches, piping, and one-way valves. In this way, it can be ensured that the rear axle brake can be released after the flameout, so that the vehicle can continue to advance by relying on manpower, and an electric air pump can be used to ensure that the vehicle has normal braking performance to control the vehicle speed, so as to prevent the speed from being affected by manpower. The distance between cars.
Full protection Ensures that everything is safe
The most important thing for floats is reliability. To be foolproof, this is also a comprehensive inspection of the craftsmanship and technical strength of car manufacturers. According to Chen Gang, in order to be completely safe, JAC has mobilized the most skilled workers to produce the Guoqing floater chassis. Each component has undergone a special inspection. Each process is confirmed and tested by a specialist. The components are most stable and environmentally friendly in China. The parts are strictly checked by the quality supervision department. After the completion of the vehicle, various experts were also organized to conduct a rigorous evaluation of the vehicle, and a 2000km run-in test was also conducted at the National Dingyuan Automobile Testing Ground.
On June 25, the chassis of the floats arrived in Beijing from Hefei and entered the stage of artistic modeling in the later period. During this period, Jianghuai Automobile arranged special personnel to provide technical support for the entire production process of the floats, and carried out rectification and technical confirmation of the chassis in accordance with the art program of the floats; after the floats were completed, routine maintenance and inspections were provided for the floats; During the exhibition at Tiananmen Square, daily inspections are also carried out daily, including tire pressure, oil, coolant, and electrical.
In order to be completely safe, Chen Gang has been stationed in Beijing for more than four months. "The pressure is too great. We must know that in the event of a breakdown of the vehicle, the floats representing the image of Anhui may not appear in the parade. To be honest, I am never so anxious that I am so long."
Of course, after the “Jianghuai Hechang†float successfully passed the inspection of the party and state leaders on Tiananmen Square, Chen Gang’s heart was finally put down. Jianghuai Automobile has not lost its mission and successfully completed all tasks for the National Day float.
