The “Large Tanker Series Optimization Study†is the first research project undertaken since the establishment of the Ship Design Center. This research project has formed 295 results and has been directly applied to ship research and development design and construction of the participating units. For example, the application of ship line type optimization design research results, successfully designed a series of hull line types with excellent rapidity; using the JTP specification design analysis and research results, developed the basic design plan for the conformity structure of the five-type ship; "new international conventions, rules The technical requirements and design research, and the "International Major Oil Transportation Rules Research" and other achievements have solved the urgent need for the shipbuilding industry research and manufacturing units to respond to the relevant new rules and the entry into force of the Convention; the standard series of ship type optimization research results have been directly or indirectly applied to large oil tankers. In the design and construction of the series of ships, reliable technical support is provided for the construction of standard ship models with advanced technical performance and competitive cost.
Through the research and development of this project, the participating units have enhanced the technical level and capability of tanker design and construction, improved the competitiveness of the international market, expanded the market share, and achieved significant economic benefits.
Dalian Shipbuilding Industry signed a shipbuilding contract with Singapore to build 11 76,000 tons of refined oil tankers with a total contract value of USD 440 million; signed a shipbuilding contract with China Shipping and Denmark MAERSK Group to build 21 VLCCs, and will deliver 10 VLCCs from 2006 to 2008. The sales income of the AFRAMAX product tanker is favored by the shipping industry at home and abroad.
