Chongqing plans to build a plastic industrial cluster

On April 25, according to news from the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economics and Information, Chongqing will rely on the Chongqing Plastic Eco-Industrial Park Base, which was started in Liangping that day, to integrate the relevant industrial resources of R&D, production, and sales of plastic products in and out of the city to create Chongqing Plastics. Industrial clusters are expected to achieve 100 billion yuan in output value by 2020.

Plastic industry market is huge

The status of plastics in modern manufacturing is becoming more and more important. For example, automobiles can achieve "light weight" through the use of a large number of plastic parts. The weight can be reduced by 10% and fuel saving can be 6%-8%. At present, among the automotive products, plastic accessories have already accounted for 25% of the total vehicle cost.

A consultancy called Frost & Sullivan predicts that in the next 5-7 years, China's plastics demand will maintain an average annual growth rate of 8%-9%.

According to the data provided by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economics and Information, in 2012, the market size of the city's three industries, namely electronic information, home appliances and automobiles, reached 50 billion yuan. The commissioners estimate that by 2015, the size of the plastics market in the above three industries will reach 100 billion yuan. This does not include new plastics for construction projects and 10 communications equipment, rail transit, and wind power equipment. Demand for billions of new industrial clusters for plastics.

Existing supply capacity "struggling"

Judging from the current situation, the existing plastics industry in Chongqing cannot meet the local market yet. It is understood that the aforementioned three major industries need plastic parts, and the supply capacity of local companies is less than 20%.

According to the Chongqing Municipal Economic and Information Commission, there are 155 various types of plastic products manufacturing enterprises distributed in 24 districts and counties of the city. The main products are building pipes, auto parts and agricultural films. In 2012, the total industrial output value of the city's plastics industry was 17.7 billion yuan, accounting for only one percent of the country's total. The output of plastic products was 890,000 tons, accounting for 1.54% of the country's total.

This person believes that the main reason for the underdevelopment of the plastics industry in Chongqing is low industrial concentration and incomplete industrial chains. At present, there is no industrial park that is relatively concentrated in the industrial chain, and its products are similar and its technology content is low.

Achieving 100 billion yuan in output value by 2020

The plastic eco-industrial park that was built in Liangping was assigned to 23 plastic-related enterprises in the first phase. The products included pipe fittings, waste plastic granules and plastic woven bags, small household appliances and inverters, and wood-plastic foam building boards. With a total investment of 15.8 billion yuan, the annual output value of the varieties will exceed 20 billion yuan.

According to relevant persons from the Chongqing Plastics Association, the next step will rely on the Liangping Plastic Ecological Industrial Park and the Changshou Chemical Industrial Base, integrating the city's plastics enterprises, undertaking domestic and international first-class plastics enterprises, and opening up R&D and design and production of fine plastics to plastic products. The entire plastics industry chain of testing, logistics, warehousing and recycling will be built into a Chongqing plastics industrial cluster. By 2020, it is expected to realize a production value of 100 billion yuan, and strive to build the largest plastic product production base and distribution center in the western region.
