The Environmental Protection Department has been using roadside telemetry equipment since September 1 to detect petrol and LPG vehicles emitting excessive emissions, to enhance control of emissions and improve roadside air quality.
The Assistant Director of the Environmental Protection Department, Mr Mo Wai-chuen, introduced the measures to the media that if the vehicle's exhaust emissions were found to be excessive, a notice would be issued asking the owner to send the vehicle to the designated vehicle exhaust test centre for testing within 12 working days to ensure the vehicle. Has been fixed. If the test fails, the vehicle license will be revoked.
To further improve roadside air quality The Environmental Protection Department has set up mobile telemetry equipment on the roadside since September 1 to detect gasoline and LPG vehicles that emit excessive emissions. If the vehicle is found to have exceeded the emission standards, the EPD will require the owner to repair the vehicle within 12 working days and go to the designated exhaust test center for testing. If the vehicle fails to pass the TD, the vehicle will be revoked.
Mo Weiquan, Assistant Director of the Environmental Protection Agency: For the sake of caution, we will place two telemetry devices at the same place where the instruments are placed. When the two telemetry devices show excessive standards at the same time, we will confirm that the vehicle (exhaust gas) is excessively discharged. The implementation of this scheme is not intended to identify vehicles with excessive emissions. It is hoped that the vehicle owners will pay attention to the maintenance and repair of the vehicles to improve the overall maintenance of the vehicles.
In the first year of implementation of the measures, the EPD will randomly place roadside telemetry equipment at three locations every day and then increase it to monitor up to five locations per day. The EPD will be a petrol private car and LPG from now until the end of August. Taxi and minibuses provide free emission test. The owner can call the test center to make an appointment.
Mo Weiquan said that the purpose of the new measures is not to identify vehicles that emit excessive amounts of exhaust gas, but to hope that the owners of gasoline and LPG vehicles will pay attention to maintenance and reduce emissions.
