Wärtsilä has been selected to provide a 12-cylinder Wartsila 31 diesel engine, propulsion machinery, auxiliary engines, etc. for a state-of-the-art large ocean-going trawler being built by a Norwegian shipyard. This is also the first time that the 12-cylinder version of the Wartsila 31 mainframe has been ordered.
It is reported that this large ocean-going trawler is ordered by the Reseach Fisheries Company based in the United Kingdom, and there is also an option for an order. The new boat is scheduled to be delivered in the fall of 2018 and is 79.8 meters long. Designed by Skipsteknisk, it will be operated on a Scottish fishery.
Wärtsilä’s contract was signed in April this year. When designating the Wärtsilä program, customers are required to use the latest technology to optimize the overall efficiency of the new ship.
In addition to the main engine, Wärtsilä will supply gearboxes, controllable pitch propellers and ProTouch propulsion systems as well as an 8-cylinder and a 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 auxiliary machine. Wärtsilä's equipment is expected to be delivered in November this year.
The Wärtsilä 31 engine has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's most efficient four-stroke diesel engine. This is the first 12-cylinder Wartsila 31 diesel engine that Wärtsilä received.
