Elkon supplies electric propulsion systems for hybrid ferries

A few days ago, Elkon undertook a new order to supply electrical equipment, propulsion systems and services to two hybrid ferries, built by Seaf in Saskatchewan, Canada. Headquartered in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Elkon is a global provider of services and products for the power quality sector in Zwickau, Saxony, under the umbrella of Imtech Marine, a global provider of innovative maritime technology solutions.
It is reported that two long 148.9-meter dual-fuel ferries will be propelled by a hybrid electric propulsion system and have the capacity to load 59 trailers. These two advanced ferries will replace aging ships and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring maximum efficiency, performance and reliability.
By undertaking design, provision of technical parameters, production and installation of complete electrical systems, including hybrid electric propulsion systems, battery systems and automation (products supply) systems, Elkon will make a significant contribution to reducing emissions for these vessels.
These complex hybrid ferries are ferries that use a very innovative extra hybrid battery system.
