On the evening of January 3, Sinopec officially announced that the construction of the third pressure-sealed well of the natural gas overflow in Qingxi 1 well in Xuanhan County, Dazhou City, Sichuan Province was successful. The raging fire that was ignited by the natural gas overflow at 10 pm on December 21, 2006, was completely extinguished after burning for 13 days.
At 18:05 on the 3rd, Chen Tonghai, the chief rescue commander and general manager of Sinopec, announced that the well was initially successful. During the continuous controllable decompression, discharge and pressure sealing construction, there were no casualties and no local air or water pollution.

At 10 o'clock on the 3rd, Chen Tonghai officially issued a rescue construction order. At 10:15, Xuanhan Natural Gas overflowed the third time to seal the wellhead and began pouring water. Zhang Xu, deputy secretary of the Shouqi Command Department of the Sinopec Sichuan-East Gas Pipeline, told the reporter that according to the opinion of the expert group, the operation of the first well after the well is sealed, the first step will be to use different densities. The mud is crushed in layers, so that the gas well pressure and the casing pressure reach a relative balance; the second step will continue to kill the well with different performance cement slurry until the gas well is sealed.

According to the relevant person in charge of Dazhou City, the well-pressing technical guidance is strong, including more than 30 domestic experts in petrochemical, geology and other related disciplines, including two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The Qingxi 1 well is a key pre-exploration well of the Sinopec Southern Exploration and Development Branch deployed in eastern Sichuan. The designed well depth is 5,620 meters and the designed target layer is the Carboniferous reservoir. On December 21, 2006, the high-pressure gas layer was drilled at 4,285 meters in the well depth, and the wellhead overflowed. The drilling team immediately took measures such as stop drilling cycle observation, shut-in pressure, and ignition pressure relief. After strict testing, the natural gas overflowing from this well does not contain hydrogen sulfide.
