Shanghai Expressway will increase 80 ETC lanes this month

In order to further increase the efficiency of ETC crossings, the third phase of the ETC system construction project currently being implemented in Shanghai will be completed this month. By then, 80 new ETC lanes will be added to the city’s expressways. At the end of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, the number of ETC lanes in the Shanghai Expressway Network will reach more than 300, and ETC users will strive to reach 500,000, and the goal of full coverage at crossings will be truly achieved. This is the information disclosed yesterday by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Municipal Urban and Rural Affairs Establishment Committee and Director of the Municipal Highways Bureau Dai Xiaojian.

Dai Xiaojian said that while adding ETC lanes, it will also improve the ETC facilities at crossings, and the speed of vehicles passing through crossings will increase from 20 km/h to 40 km/h, and the capacity at crossings will increase significantly. According to reports, Shanghai has introduced light curtain vehicle detection technology that can correctly distinguish between successful or failed transactions, ETC vehicles and non-ETC vehicles, and accurately determine the direction of travel (forward or backward) of the vehicle, thus forming a correct queue for vehicle traffic and control. The passage of vehicles greatly improves the speed and transaction success rate of ETC vehicle crossings.

At present, Shanghai has already realized the interconnection and intercommunication of expressway network ETC with five provinces in Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian and Zhejiang. The city has owned 184 expressway ETC lanes and the number of ETC users in the city has reached 300,000. From Monday to Friday, the average daily flow of ETC reached 170,000 vehicles, accounting for about 20% of the total expressway network traffic.

The reporter learned yesterday from the Shanghai Public Transport Card Company that at present, the city's ETC business access points have reached 27, providing services for users to apply, install, and recharge; 120 ICBC (601398, stocks) business outlets can handle ETC Shanghai Card business. 136 self-service terminals can provide ETC Shanghai Cardholders with replenishment services; the city's 350 Liangyou Convenience Stores have also opened ETC replenishment services.
